Resin captures every detail and picks up every scratch, so the cleanest results come from a flexible silicone mold: the resin releases without sticking, demolds without cracking, and takes a glassy finish straight off the mold. Materials & casting tips
- Silicone vs direct print: use a silicone mold for clarity, undercuts and repeat casts; a direct printed mold is fine for quick, simple, flat-backed pieces. See the silicone vs direct-print guide.
- Release: silicone needs no release for most resins. In a printed mold, a mold-release spray plus sanding or a gloss coat helps the resin let go and hides layer lines.
- Bubbles: mix slowly, pour in a thin stream, and pop bubbles with a heat gun or torch pass. A pressure pot gives the clearest casts.
- Filament: PETG resists the mild heat of curing epoxy better than PLA if you print the mold directly.

Is the resin mold maker free?
Yes, free. You can design and preview a resin mold without signing in; downloading the files needs a free account (no card). The preview and the download are built on your device; these two generators send your model's geometry to our server to do the heavy shape maths, and it is deleted as soon as your files are ready.
Should I pour resin into a printed mold or a silicone one?
For clear, detailed or repeated casts, cast a flexible silicone mold - resin releases from silicone without sticking. A direct printed mold works for quick, simple, flat-backed pieces but shows layer lines and needs a release agent.
Will resin stick to the mold?
Not in silicone, which most resins release from cleanly. In a printed mold, use a mold-release spray and a smooth interior finish so the cured resin lifts out.
What file format do I get?
A standard STL or 3MF that loads straight into any slicer - Cura, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer and others.
