The arch is the best-selling polymer clay earring shape there is: a flat base, straight sides and a round top, simple enough to show off a marbled or terrazzo slab. This set is five graduated arches, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 mm tall, so you can make studs, dangles and stacked designs from one shape, and every cutter punches the jump ring hole at the top of the arch in the same press. Good for minimalist dangles, arch studs, stacked two-tier earrings and craft-market stock. The pieces come out 12 x 15, 16 x 20, 20 x 25, 24 x 30 and 28 x 35 mm.

Made with our free cookie and clay cutter generator, not modelled by hand: we drew each shape at its size and uploaded it to the tool, with Cut detail into cutter switched on for the jump ring hole. The zip holds exactly what the tool gives you, one STL per cutter (a 0.8 mm blade, 14 mm tall, with a 4 mm rim to press on, printed rim down with no supports) plus each drawing as an SVG, so you can remake any of them at another size. Every cutter has a small tube inside that punches the jump ring hole in the same press, about 3.2 mm across with at least 1.6 mm of clay round it, so there is no drilling after baking and both earrings of a pair hang the same.

For polymer clay earrings: condition Sculpey Premo or Souffle, Fimo or Cernit, roll it 2 to 3 mm thick, dust the blade with cornstarch (or cut through cling film for soft, rounded edges), press straight down and lift. Bake the pieces on a tile as your clay's packet says, for most brands 110 to 130 °C (230 to 275 °F) for 15 to 30 minutes per 6 mm, then sand the edges, varnish or add UV resin if you like, and fit jump rings, ear wires or glued posts.

The same cutters cut air-dry clay, precious metal clay, fondant and gum paste, and dough for tiny cookies, but once a cutter has touched polymer clay keep it for clay: print a second set for anything you eat.

Stack two sizes for an instant best seller: a 15 mm arch on top, a 30 mm arch below, joined by a 6 mm jump ring, the smaller one in a contrasting colour.

What you need

7
  • Polymer clay: Sculpey Premo or Souffle, Fimo, Cernit or any oven-bake brand
  • An acrylic roller or a pasta machine, and a ceramic tile or baking paper to work on
  • Cornstarch or cling film so the pieces release cleanly
  • A pin or a paper clip to push the clay plug out of the hole punch
  • Findings: 6 to 8 mm jump rings, ear wires or flat pad posts, and jewellery glue for posts
  • Wet sandpaper (400 to 1000 grit) and a varnish or UV resin for the finish, if you like
  • About 12 g of PLA or PETG for all five cutters

How to use it

7
  1. Print each file as exported: the rim flat on the bed, the blade pointing up, no supports.

  2. Condition the clay until it is soft and roll it 2 to 3 mm thick on a tile or baking paper.

  3. Dust the blade with cornstarch, or lay cling film over the clay for rounded edges.

  4. Press the cutter straight down with a fingertip on the rim, wiggle it a little, and lift.

  5. Push the clay plug out of the hole punch with a pin before the next cut.

  6. Bake the pieces on the tile as your clay's packet says (most brands 110 to 130 °C, 15 to 30 minutes), never the cutter.

  7. Let them cool, sand the edges, varnish if you like, and add jump rings and ear wires or glued posts.

Questions about this design

Which sizes are in the arch polymer clay earring cutter set?

Five arches, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 mm tall, each four fifths as wide as it is tall. The 15 and 20 mm arches suit studs and the top half of a stacked earring; the 25 to 35 mm ones are the classic dangle sizes.

Where does the arch earring cutter put the jump ring hole?

Centred near the top of the arch, with at least 1.6 mm of clay left between the hole and the edge so it does not tear out. The hole comes out about 3.2 mm across, which takes a 6 to 8 mm jump ring with room to swing.

How thick should the clay be for the arch earring cutters?

Roll it 2 to 3 mm thick, a middle setting on most pasta machines. Thinner arches can warp in the oven and thicker ones get heavy on the ear; the blades are 14 mm tall, so any earring thickness fits.

How long do I bake earrings made with the arch earring cutter set?

Follow your clay's packet, since brands differ: Sculpey Premo bakes at 130 °C (275 °F), Fimo and Cernit at 110 °C (230 °F), for about 30 minutes per 6 mm of thickness, and thin 2 to 3 mm earrings still get the full minimum time. Use an oven thermometer, bake on a tile, and never bake the cutter.

Can I make the arch earring cutter set in other sizes?

Yes. Every drawing is in the zip as an SVG: upload one to the free cookie and clay cutter generator, set the Cutter size slider (8 to 120 mm) and switch on Cut detail into cutter to keep the hole punch. The hole scales with the drawing, so start from the drawing closest to the size you want.
