A round maker's mark: HANDMADE over the top and WITH CARE under the bottom, set round a star like an old wax seal. Press it into the foot of a mug or bowl, the back of polymer clay earrings or a leather key fob, so everything you make carries the same mark.

Made with our free stamp maker, not modelled by hand: we drew the picture in code, uploaded it and set the circle shape to 48 mm across; the page traced it into the raised face. The zip holds exactly what the tool gives you: a stamp plate with a 2 mm raised face and a handle that screws into its back, as one STL, and as a 3MF with the face, plate and handle as separate coloured parts. The page mirrors the face, so the mark reads the right way round, and flares every raised wall a little toward the plate, which helps the stamp let go of a slab of clay. The picture is in the zip too, so you can change it and make your own.

What you need

  • Clay to stamp: pottery clay at soft leather hard, polymer clay before baking, or air-dry clay
  • Cornstarch for polymer clay, or a damp sponge for pottery clay, so the face lets go cleanly
  • About 14 g of PLA or PETG

How to use it

  1. Print both parts as exported: the plate face down on the bed, the handle standing on its foot, no supports.

  2. Screw the handle into the back of the plate until it is snug.

  3. Dust the face with cornstarch, or dampen it for pottery clay.

  4. Press straight down into the clay with even pressure and lift straight up, without rocking.

  5. Brush clay out of the gaps before it dries, and store the stamp face up.

Questions about this design

When do I press the handmade seal stamp into pottery clay?

At soft leather hard, when the clay holds its shape but still takes a mark without cracking. Press straight down with even pressure, lift straight up, and dry the piece slowly as usual so the mark does not warp.

Can I use the handmade seal stamp on leather?

Yes, on vegetable-tanned leather that has been dampened (cased) until it just starts to go back to its natural colour. Press it in with a vise or a clamp rather than a mallet: a mallet can crack a printed stamp.

Which filament should I print the handmade seal stamp in?

PLA or PETG, at 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers for the crispest letters. Clay needs a rigid face, so skip TPU, which flexes and blurs the mark. A dry toothbrush gets clay out of the gaps before it hardens.
