A puffy honeycomb star for the tree: two halves that pin together, with a hanging hole in the top point.
A five point Christmas star you print flat: two honeycomb nets that you warm and press into halves, then push together on the pins round the rim. It closes into a puffy star 100 mm from point to point and about 51 mm deep through the middle, with a 3 mm hole through its top point for a thread, a ribbon or an ornament hook.
Made with our mesh former. Each net prints in about 67 minutes, with no supports, and weighs about 8 g. The press, a plug and a cavity, is printed once and forms every half: the star is symmetric, so the front and the back come out of the same press. The points are rounded on purpose, so the net over them stretches no thinner than it does in the middle.
Print it in gold, silver or silk PLA and PETG for the classic tree star, or in white for a snowy look. The zip has both nets, the plug, the cavity, a print sheet and the outline as an SVG you can drop on the mesh former to change the size or the net pattern.
Shown as a 3D render of the closed star in front of the two press halves, not a photo.

Print the front net, the back net, the plug and the cavity, all flat on the bed.
Lay the front net in the cavity's pocket, flat face down, so the small pins go through the holes in its rim.
Warm it with the heat gun kept moving 15 to 20 cm away until it goes limp. Turn the plug over side to side, like the page of a book (its left edge goes to the right, its top stays at the top), push it straight down and hold it for a minute while it cools.
Do the same with the back net in the same press.
Put the halves rim to rim and press the pins of the front into the holes of the back. Thread the string through the hole in the top point.

A sharp point is too narrow for the press to rise in, so the net there would stay flat or stretch much thinner than the rest. Rounded points let every arm of the star puff up, and the 1.4 mm net stretches to about 0.73 mm on average, still above the thickness where a pressed net starts to tear.
Yes. Close the two halves round a small battery fairy light or a coin cell LED and the star glows through every cell. Leave the pins unglued so you can open it again to switch the light off or change the battery.
It works as a small topper: it weighs about 15 g, so tie it to the top shoot through the hanging hole with a twist tie or a thin cable tie. It has no sleeve to slide over the tip, and at 100 mm it suits a small or medium tree best.
The front half has eleven small pins standing on its rim and the back half has matching holes, so the halves press together and hold by friction. A drop of glue on each pin makes it permanent for a star that gets handled a lot.
