A 150 mm honeycomb bowl for keys or decoration. Print it flat, warm it, press it into shape.
A 150 mm bowl with a scalloped rim and a honeycomb net, 27 mm tall. It sits flat on its wide, gently curved bottom, so it works as a catch-all for keys, coins and earbuds by the door, or as a light decorative bowl on a shelf.
Made with our mesh former. The net prints flat, with no supports, in about two hours. You then warm it with a heat gun or a hair dryer, lay it in the printed cavity and push the printed plug down on it. The net stretches into a 24 mm deep bowl and keeps that shape once it cools, while the thicker rim holds the scalloped outline.
The press is printed once and forms as many bowls as you like, so a second bowl in another colour costs one more net. The zip has the net, the plug, the cavity, a print sheet and the outline as an SVG you can drop on the mesh former to change the size, the depth or the net pattern.
Shown as a 3D render of the formed bowl in front of the two press halves, not a photo.

Print the net, the plug and the cavity flat on the bed.
Lay the net in the cavity's pocket, flat face down, so the small pins go through the holes in its rim.
Warm the net with the heat gun kept moving 15 to 20 cm away, until it goes limp. Keep the heat off the rim.
Turn the plug over side to side, like the page of a book (its left edge goes to the right, its top stays at the top), so its flange matches the block. Push it straight down into the cavity and hold it for about a minute while the net cools.
Lift the plug and take the bowl out. Warm and press again any part of the net that did not form fully.

A net printed as a bowl needs supports under every strut on the curve, and pulling them out of 2,000 small cells is miserable. Printed flat it needs none, the rim comes out stiff and the struts come out clean, and the heat and the press put the curve in afterwards.
Yes. A household hair dryer on its hottest setting softens a PETG net, it just takes a few minutes longer than a heat gun. Hold it close and keep it moving over the whole net, then press as soon as the net goes limp.
A tear almost always means the net was pressed before it was evenly soft, so warm the whole net, not just the middle. A part that stayed flat can be warmed on its own and pressed again with the plug. If a net is ruined, the press is still good: print another net, it is about 15 g.
Yes. Drop the outline SVG from the zip on the mesh former and change the size, the depth or the net pattern. It builds a new net and a matching press, so print all three parts again. Deeper than about 26 mm at this size and the net stretches thin enough to tear; the tool warns you.
