Dino nugget soap mold

A brontosaurus dino nugget 91 mm long and 61 mm tall, standing on its four stubby feet: long neck, little head, tail, and the lumpy breaded texture on both sides. The childhood freezer classic, as a bar of soap nobody expects.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The seam runs round the nugget's edge, so the front and the back are the two halves, and the tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. The mold is set to soap, so the clearance suits melt-and-pour.

It is a gag gift that is also useful: a golden-brown melt-and-pour soap that looks exactly like the nugget. The zip carries both halves, the nugget master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

• About 31 g of melt-and-pour soap base: the cavity holds 31 ml
• A little brown and yellow soap colourant
• Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, and rubber bands or clamps

How to cast it

1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.
2. Close the halves and band them along the whole seam.
3. Melt the soap base, tint it golden brown, and pour at 55 to 60 C through the funnel.
4. Spritz the funnel with alcohol to pop the bubbles, and top it up after ten minutes.
5. Leave it a few hours to set, then open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the sprue flat.
