Soap Pro early access

A soap bar 88 x 60 mm and about 26 mm thick with a diagonal ripple across a gently crowned face and a flat back. The ripple reads from every angle and gives a wet bar some grip.

Made with the box mode of our silicone mold maker, which the site's own mold advisor ranks first for a low, wide shape like a bar. Print the base with the bar fused onto it face up, two walls and two clamps, pour about 355 ml of silicone, and the cured block is an open-backed soap mold: pour, level off the back, pop out.

The zip carries every printed part, the soap master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

Shown as a 3D render of the printed parts and the soap bar, not a photo.

What you need

  • About 387 ml of silicone (mix it in one batch)
  • About 113 g of melt-and-pour or cold-process soap per bar: each cast is 113 ml
  • Tape or a hot glue gun for the wall seams

How to cast it

  1. Print the base with the master fused onto it, the two walls and the two clamps.
  2. Stand the walls on the base, slide the clamps over the corners, and seal the outside seams with tape or hot glue.
  3. Mix 387 ml of silicone in one batch and pour it into a corner, letting it rise around the master until it covers the top.
  4. Once it has cured, take the clamps and walls off and pull the silicone block off the master. That block is your mold.
  5. Turn the block over: the opening is the flat back of the bar. Pour your soap, level it, and pop the bar out once it has set.

Questions about this design

Melt and pour or cold process?

Both. Silicone takes the heat of melt-and-pour and the alkalinity of cold-process soap. Spritz the surface with alcohol after pouring melt-and-pour to pop the bubbles on the back.

How much silicone does the soap bar mold need?

About 355 ml, so mix 387 ml in one batch. The exact figures are in the tool's print-settings sheet inside the zip.

Can I make a tray of several bars?

Print and pour the kit two or three times, or upload the master to the silicone mold maker and scale it to make a set in different sizes.
