3D render of a navy 3D printed ball Christmas ornament with a silver trim, silver stars and Baby's first Christmas in white script, lying flat
Print only ~15 g

The ornament everyone gives the new parents: a flat ball with a cap and loop, "Baby's first Christmas" across it in white script, a silver trim round the edge and little raised stars on a navy face. It is 75 by 88 mm with its loop and prints flat in one piece. Open it in the free tool and add the baby's name or the year as a third line before you print.

Made with our free Christmas ornament generator, not modelled by hand: we picked the ball shape, "Baby's first" and "Christmas" on two lines in the Retro Script font, the navy and silver colour set and the Little stars pattern. Everything else is the tool's default. The zip holds exactly what the tool exports: a 3MF with every part in its own colour, and the same print as one STL. Like every free download from the tool, it carries a small MESHCAST mark where it does not show.

Print it flat, face up, with no supports, thread a ribbon through the loop and it is on the tree the same evening. Print one for everyone at the table, or open the tool and change the words first.

Shown as a 3D render of the printed ornament, lying flat as it comes off the bed, not a photo.

What you need

2
  • About 15 g of PLA, in three colours or one
  • A ribbon, twine or an ornament hook

How to make it

4
  1. Print it flat, face up, as exported. No supports.

  2. For two colours on one nozzle, change filament at the height in the README: the letters and the trim start there.

  3. Pull off any stringing round the letters with tweezers.

  4. Thread a ribbon, twine or an ornament hook through the loop at the top.

Questions about this design

How do I put the name on the Baby's first Christmas ornament?

Open the free Christmas ornament generator from this page, pick the ball shape and the two lines above, and type the baby's name or the year into a third line. The tool shrinks every line to fit the ball, so a long name still fits, and you download the finished file in a minute.

How long does the Baby's first Christmas ornament take to print?

About 45 min and 15 g of PLA at 0.2 mm layers, estimated from the files rather than sliced, so a current printer is often faster. It prints flat in one piece with no supports, so it suits a first print on any printer.

How big is the Baby's first Christmas ornament, and can I make it bigger?

It is 75 by 88 mm and 3.4 mm thick. To change that, open the free Christmas ornament generator from this page and move the size slider; the rest of the design follows, and you download the new file in a minute.
