Cookie dough Pro early access

A flying bat with wings spread wide, little pointed ears and the scalloped trailing edge that makes a bat read as a bat. It is 100 mm across, so the wings stay wide enough to bake without burning. Good for Halloween, spooky birthday parties and gothic wedding favours. The cookie comes out about 100 by 49 mm.

Made with our free cookie cutter generator, not modelled by hand: we drew the silhouette, uploaded it to the tool and set the cutter size to 100 mm. The STL in the zip is exactly what the tool gives you: a 0.8 mm blade, 14 mm tall, with a 4 mm rim to press on, exported rim down so it prints without supports. The silhouette is in the zip too, as an SVG, so you can make it bigger, smaller or add a matching stamp.

Use a cocoa dough and the bats come out dark without any icing. A dot of white and a dot of black for each eye is enough.

Shown as a 3D render of the printed cutter and two cookies in its shape, not a photo.

What you need

  • Rolled cookie dough that holds its shape: sugar cookie or gingerbread, with little or no baking powder
  • A rolling pin, and two 5 to 6 mm guides for an even thickness
  • Flour for dipping the cutter, and baking paper
  • About 8 g of PLA or PETG, ideally a food-contact filament

How to use it

  1. Print the cutter as exported: rim flat on the bed, blade pointing up, no supports.
  2. Wash it in warm soapy water before the first use.
  3. Roll the chilled dough 5 to 6 mm thick between two sheets of baking paper.
  4. Dip the blade in flour, press straight down with your palm on the rim, and lift.
  5. Chill the cut cookies for ten minutes, then bake.
  6. Wash the cutter by hand straight after use and let it dry. PLA softens in a dishwasher.

Questions about this design

How do I make black bat cookies without black food colouring?

Use a dark cocoa dough (black cocoa if you can find it). It bakes almost black and tastes like chocolate, where a lot of black food colouring tastes bitter and stains teeth.

Will the thin bat wing tips break?

They stay wide all the way out: the wings are drawn deep enough that even the tips bake along with the body. Lift the baked bats with a wide spatula under the whole body and let them cool on the tray for a few minutes first.

Can I make the bat cutter bigger or smaller?

Yes. Upload bat.svg from the zip to the free cookie cutter generator and move the Cutter size slider (this one is 100 mm). You can also switch on a matching stamp there, or change the blade height and rim.
