Ghost cookie cutter

A friendly waving ghost with a scalloped hem. The easiest Halloween cookie to ice.

Cookie dough ~8 g

A friendly ghost with little raised arms and a wavy, scalloped hem, leaning slightly as if it is floating past. It needs nothing more than white icing and two dots for eyes. Good for Halloween parties, school treats and trick-or-treat bags. The cookie comes out about 85 by 84 mm.

Made with our free cookie cutter generator, not modelled by hand: we drew the silhouette, uploaded it to the tool and set the cutter size to 85 mm. The STL in the zip is exactly what the tool gives you: a 0.8 mm blade, 14 mm tall, with a 4 mm rim to press on, exported rim down so it prints without supports. The silhouette is in the zip too, as an SVG, so you can make it bigger, smaller or add a matching stamp.

Pipe the eyes and an open "O" mouth with melted dark chocolate instead of black icing. It sets faster and tastes better than black food colouring.

Shown as a 3D render of the printed cutter and two cookies in its shape, not a photo.

Ghost cookie cutter at a glance: every printed part with its size, print time, filament, print settings and the three steps to use it

What you need

4
  • Rolled cookie dough that holds its shape: sugar cookie or gingerbread, with little or no baking powder
  • A rolling pin, and two 5 to 6 mm guides for an even thickness
  • Flour for dipping the cutter, and baking paper
  • About 8 g of PLA or PETG, ideally a food-contact filament

How to use it

6
  1. Print the cutter as exported: rim flat on the bed, blade pointing up, no supports.

  2. Wash it in warm soapy water before the first use.

  3. Roll the chilled dough 5 to 6 mm thick between two sheets of baking paper.

  4. Dip the blade in flour, press straight down with your palm on the rim, and lift.

  5. Chill the cut cookies for ten minutes, then bake.

  6. Wash the cutter by hand straight after use and let it dry. PLA softens in a dishwasher.

Food contact: the cutter only touches dough briefly, but layer lines hold residue. Print it in a food-contact filament, wash it by hand in warm water, and keep it away from the dishwasher. Food-safe guide.

Questions about this design

What is the fastest way to decorate the ghost cookies?

Dip the top of each baked ghost straight into thinned white icing, let the excess drip off and set it on a rack. Two chocolate chips for eyes while it is wet and you are done in seconds per cookie.

Will the ghost's scalloped hem hold its shape in the oven?

Yes, the scallops are round rather than pointed, so they bake at the same rate as the body. Use a no-spread dough and chill the cut cookies, and the waves stay crisp.

Can I make the ghost cutter bigger or smaller?

Yes. Upload ghost.svg from the zip to the free cookie cutter generator and move the Cutter size slider (this one is 85 mm). You can also switch on a matching stamp there, or change the blade height and rim.
