◆ Cookie dough
A five-lobed autumn maple leaf with a short, sturdy stem. Thanksgiving, fall parties and Canada Day.
A classic maple leaf: three big pointed lobes with a side tooth each, two small lobes at the bottom, and a short, thick stem. The lobes are broad and the notches between them are open V shapes, so the dough cuts cleanly and the tips bake golden instead of dark. Good for Thanksgiving, autumn harvest parties, Canada Day, back-to-school and fall wedding favours. The cookie comes out about 90 by 85 mm.
Made with our free cookie cutter generator, not modelled by hand: we drew the silhouette, uploaded it to the tool and set the cutter size to 90 mm. The STL in the zip is exactly what the tool gives you: a 0.8 mm blade, 14 mm tall, with a 4 mm rim to press on, exported rim down so it prints without supports. The silhouette is in the zip too, as an SVG, so you can make it bigger, smaller or add a matching stamp.
Tint three small batches of dough red, orange and yellow, press them loosely together, roll them out and cut. Every maple leaf comes out marbled in its own autumn colours, with no icing needed.
Shown as a 3D render of the printed cutter and two cookies in its shape, not a photo.
Print the cutter as exported: rim flat on the bed, blade pointing up, no supports.
Wash it in warm soapy water before the first use.
Roll the chilled dough 5 to 6 mm thick between two sheets of baking paper.
Dip the blade in flour, press straight down with your palm on the rim, and lift.
Chill the cut cookies for ten minutes, then bake.
Wash the cutter by hand straight after use and let it dry. PLA softens in a dishwasher.

Roll the dough evenly, 5 to 6 mm, chill the cut leaves for ten minutes and bake on the middle shelf until the edges only just colour. The points are the thinnest part of the leaf, so pull the tray as soon as they turn golden.
Flood them in orange, red or gold royal icing and pipe the veins in a darker shade once the base has set: one line up the stem into each big lobe. Or brush the baked leaves with a little edible gold dust for a quick harvest table.
Yes. Flood the leaves in red royal icing, or cut them from plain dough and dip half of each leaf in melted white chocolate. It has eleven points like the leaf on the flag, just a little softer at the tips so they bake evenly.
Yes. Upload maple-leaf.svg from the zip to the free cookie cutter generator and move the Cutter size slider (this one is 90 mm). You can also switch on a matching stamp there, or change the blade height and rim.
