Candle wax ~155 g

A wavy slab candle 128 mm tall, 72 mm wide at the widest and 26 mm deep: the whole slab snakes gently side to side as it rises, the front edge is softly rounded, and "sexy" in raised script runs straight up the middle of the front, reading bottom to top. The back is flat. It holds about 171 ml of wax.

Made with our tray mold generator in its flexible silicone tray mode, the way candles like this are made: print one part, a caster with the candle standing in it face up, pour silicone over it, and the silicone you peel out is a one-piece mold. The candle is cast face down in it and the wax goes in through the open back, so there is no seam anywhere and the script comes out crisp. The caster wall follows the wave, so it takes less silicone than a square box.

A cheeky gift for a partner or a hen night: pour it in white, blush or deep red with a warm vanilla or amber scent, and gild the script with gold mica. The zip carries the printed caster exactly as the tool exported it, the candle on its own as an STL, the master uploaded to the tool, and a print and pour sheet with the silicone figure the tool measured.

Sexy wavy candle mold at a glance: every printed part with its size, print time, filament, print settings and the three steps to use it

What you need

3
  • About 182 ml of silicone for the mold (mix it in one batch)
  • About 171 ml of pillar wax per candle
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 30 to 40 mm candle, about 150 mm long, and a wick bar or two pencils

How to cast it

5
  1. Print the caster as exported, open side up, no supports. The silicone copies every layer line on the candle's face, so sand the script and the front lightly or brush on a thin coat of XTC-3D first for a smooth candle.

  2. Mix 182 ml of silicone in one batch and pour it into one corner of the caster in a thin stream until it covers the candle and is level with the rim. Tap the caster on the table for a minute and let it cure as long as its datasheet says.

  3. Peel the cured silicone out. That is your mold: a candle-shaped cavity, face down, open at the back.

  4. Set the mold level, hold the wick upright in the middle with a wick bar across the top, and pour the wax at 65 to 75 C. Once it is firm but still warm, top it up: wax shrinks and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, flex the silicone back from the candle and peel it out face up. Trim the wick.

Questions about this design

How do I make the raised "sexy" letters stand out?

Pour the candle in one colour, then once it is cold dry-brush the letters with a little mica powder, or rub candle paint over them and wipe the flat face clean with a soft cloth. The raised script catches the colour and the slab stays plain.

Why is the sexy candle a silicone mold and not a two-part print?

A one-piece silicone mold has no seam, so nothing crosses the script, and the flexible silicone peels off the raised letters instead of the letters having to slide out of a rigid half. It is how the wavy logo candles you see on Instagram and Etsy are made: cast face down, poured from the back.

Can I pour the sexy candle in soy wax?

Use a soy pillar blend, not a container soy wax: container soy is too soft to stand on its own and smears the letters. Paraffin pillar wax, a pillar soy blend or beeswax all release cleanly from silicone.
