An apple candle 70 mm across and 71 mm tall: full, rounded shoulders, five soft lobes at the foot, a deep dimple round a thick stem that the wick runs through, and a leaf lying on the shoulder with a groove down its middle.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The apple is posed so its leaf lies right on the seam line, where the two halves split it, and the stem stands on the axis. The tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck, so it needs no silicone.

An autumn and harvest candle: pour it in red, green or golden yellow, or make a bowl of three for a table. Teachers' gifts and farm stands love them. The zip carries both halves, the apple master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

  • About 168 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 187 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 70 mm candle, about 110 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.

  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.

  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick level with the top of the stem.

Questions about this design

How do I colour the leaf and stem of the apple candle?

Pour the apple in red or green, let it cool fully, then paint the leaf with green and the stem with brown candle paint or mica mixed with a drop of melted wax. A little gold mica brushed over the shoulders gives a shiny, just-polished look.

Where does the wick go in the apple candle?

Up the middle and out through the stem, which is thick enough to hold it. Drop a tabbed wick in so the tab rests on the flat at the foot, close the halves and clip the wick centred across the funnel above the stem.

Can I make apple soaps with the same mold?

Yes. Melt-and-pour soap releases from a rigid PETG print once it has had 15 minutes in the freezer. Pour at 55 to 60 C, spritz with alcohol to pop the bubbles, and leave out the wick.
