A bubble cloud candle 84 mm wide, 47 mm tall and 35 mm deep: seven round puffs, a big one in the middle and smaller ones around it, sitting on a flat foot so it stands on a shelf or a windowsill.

Made with the hugging-shell mode of our silicone mold maker: print the base with the cloud fused onto it and the two shell halves, pour about 128 ml of silicone, and the flexible mold that comes out peels off every waist between the puffs. The puffs are joined through a solid core, so the candle casts in one piece with no holes through it.

A soft, dreamy shape for nurseries, baby showers and pastel shelves: pour it in white, sky blue or blush. The zip carries every printed part, the cloud master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

  • About 149 ml of silicone (mix it in one batch)
  • About 65 g of pillar wax per candle: each cast is 72 ml
  • Steel binder clips, tape or a hot glue gun
  • A primed wick for a 30 mm candle, about 70 mm long

How to cast it

  1. Print the base, which has the master already fused onto it, and the two shell halves. No supports.

  2. Stand the shell halves on the base around the master and hold the seams shut with steel binder clips. The seats for them are built into the shell.

  3. Tape the outside seams or run a bead of hot glue along them, because silicone finds every gap.

  4. Mix 149 ml of silicone in one batch, pour it into the open top in a thin stream, and fill level with the rim.

  5. Once it has cured, unclip the shell, lift it off and peel the silicone off the master. That silicone is your mold.

  6. Set the silicone back in the shell to keep its shape, and cast into it through the opening the base left.

Questions about this design

Where does the wick go in the bubble cloud candle?

Down through the big middle puff, the highest point, to the foot. Pierce the silicone at the top of that puff with a wick needle before you pour, or push a heated wick pin through the set candle.

Does the bubble cloud candle stand up on its own?

Yes. It is 35 mm deep and the lower puffs are cut flat into a wide foot along the whole bottom, so it stands steadily on a shelf. Set it on a small dish while it burns to catch any drips.

How much wax does one bubble cloud candle take?

About 65 g of pillar wax per candle. The silicone mold is made once, from about 149 ml of silicone, and then casts candle after candle.
