A chonky cat candle 80 mm tall and 73 mm wide: a round body, a round head, pointed ears, closed happy eyes, whiskers, a little nose, two front paws and a tail wrapped round the side. The "absolute unit" meme, as a candle.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The seam runs from ear to ear, so the face and belly are the front half and the back is the other, and the tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

Cast it in cream, ginger, grey or black, one for every cat person you know. The zip carries both halves, the cat master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file that puts every setting back on the generator.

What you need

  • About 131 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 145 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 60 mm candle, about 100 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.
  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.
  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.
  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.
  5. Cool fully, then open the halves at the pry pockets. The face comes out of the front half. Trim the wick between the ears.

Questions about this design

Will the whiskers and eyes show on the chonky cat candle?

Yes. They are carved into the face, which is on the front half and pulls straight away from it, so the wax keeps every line. Pour at the low end of the temperature range and let it cool slowly for the crispest whiskers.

Which colours work for the chonky cat candle?

Any solid cat colour: cream, ginger, grey or black. For a tabby, pour a slightly darker wax, and once it is out rub a little brown mica across the back and the top of the head with a dry brush.

Is the chonky cat candle mold hard to open?

No. The seam runs ear to ear through the widest part of the cat, so both halves come straight off. Use the pry pockets on the seam with a flat screwdriver rather than pulling at the funnel.
