A tray of four wax melt snap bars, each 74 x 50 mm and 16 mm deep: six 24 mm cubes on a thin web with V-grooves between them, and a raised Christmas icon on every cube: a tree with its garlands, a star, a bauble, a snowflake, a wrapped gift and a striped candy cane. About 50 ml of wax per bar.

Made with our tray mold generator in its flexible silicone tray mode: print the caster, pour silicone into it and peel out a flexible four-bar tray. The icons stand 1.2 mm proud with their details pressed in, and the flexible tray lets go of the snap grooves that would lock a rigid mold.

Snap bars are what melt makers put on a Christmas market table, one scent per bar. The layout matches our Halloween snap bar, so the two trays make a season's range. The zip carries the printed caster exactly as the tool exported it, one bar on its own as an STL, the master uploaded to the tool, and a print and pour sheet with the silicone figure the tool measured.

What you need

  • About 266 ml of silicone for the tray (mix it in one batch)
  • Wax melt blend and fragrance oil, about 50 ml per bar
  • Mica powder and a soft brush, if you want the icons to shine

How to cast it

  1. Print the caster as exported, open side up. It is one part, so there are no seams to seal. No supports.

  2. Set it on a level surface. Mix 266 ml of silicone in one batch and pour it into one corner in a thin stream, letting it flow round the raised shapes until it is level with the rim.

  3. Tap the caster on the table for a minute to bring the bubbles up, then let the silicone cure for as long as its datasheet says.

  4. Peel the cured silicone out of the caster. That silicone is your tray, and the caster is ready for another one.

  5. Fill each cavity, let it set, then flex the tray and peel it back to pop the pieces out.

Questions about this design

Which scents suit a Christmas snap bar?

Pine, cinnamon, orange and clove, gingerbread, cranberry and peppermint are the classics, one scent per bar. Most melt waxes hold 6 to 10 percent fragrance oil by weight; the supplier states the maximum, and each bar here is about 45 g of wax.

How do I colour the icons on a Christmas snap bar?

Once the bars are out, brush a little red, green or gold mica over the raised icons with a dry, soft brush and blow off the loose powder. It clings to the tops of the icons and leaves the bar plain. Gold on a white or cream wax looks the most festive.

How do I package Christmas snap bars to sell?

Let them cure for a day, then slide each bar into a clear clamshell or a cello bag with a label giving the scent, the weight and the safety wording your market requires. Keep them out of direct sun: warm wax sweats and the icons soften.
