The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The seam runs round the crescent's outline, so each pillowed face is one half, and the tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

A calm nursery and bedroom candle, lovely next to a star. Pour it in pale yellow, soft grey or white with a pearl shimmer. The zip carries both halves, the moon master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

  • About 49 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 54 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 30 mm candle, about 90 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.

  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.

  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick.

Questions about this design

Does the crescent moon stand up by itself?

Yes, its lower curve is cut flat into a foot, and the moon leans back into its own weight. Set it on a small dish while it burns.

Where does the wick go in the moon candle?

The pour funnel sits at the top of the crescent, where it is thin. For a wick, push a heated wick pin down into the thick middle of the crescent's back once the candle is out, and set a small wick there. Many people keep the moon as a nursery decoration and never light it.

Does the moon go with a star candle?

Yes, it pairs with the puffy star candle mold at the same scale. A moon and two small stars make a nursery set.
