A tray of nine eight-petal daisies, 45 mm across and 14 mm deep. Each flower has a raised, domed centre and a fine groove running down the middle of every petal, the details that make a wax melt look like a flower rather than a round blob.

Made with our tray mold generator in its flexible silicone tray mode: print the caster (a raised daisy in each of nine spots, inside walls that follow the petals), pour silicone into it, and peel out a flexible tray. Silicone picks up the petal grooves far better than a printed tray could.

The zip carries the printed caster exactly as the tool exported it, one daisy on its own as an STL, the master uploaded to the tool, and a print and pour sheet with the measured silicone figure.

What you need

  • About 337 ml of silicone for the tray (mix it in one batch)
  • Wax melt blend and fragrance oil, about 15 ml per daisy
  • A second wax colour for the centres, if you want two-tone flowers

How to cast it

  1. Print the caster as exported, open side up. It is one part, so there are no seams to seal. No supports.

  2. Set it on a level surface. Mix 337 ml of silicone in one batch and pour it into one corner in a thin stream, letting it flow round the raised shapes until it is level with the rim.

  3. Tap the caster on the table for a minute to bring the bubbles up, then let the silicone cure for as long as its datasheet says.

  4. Peel the cured silicone out of the caster. That silicone is your tray, and the caster is ready for another one.

  5. Fill each cavity, let it set, then flex the tray and peel it back to pop the pieces out.

Questions about this design

How do I make two-tone daisy melts?

Put a few drops of yellow wax into the domed centre of each cavity first and let it skin over, which takes a minute or two. Then fill the rest of the flower with white wax poured a little cooler, so it does not melt the centre back into itself.

Will the petal grooves show on the melts?

Yes. The grooves are about a millimetre deep on the caster, and silicone copies detail far finer than that. They show best in a paraffin or coconut blend; very soft soy wax can frost over fine detail.

Can the daisy tray make bath bombs?

Not well: bath bomb mix is pressed, not poured, and a flexible tray gives under pressure. Melt-and-pour soap, wax, chocolate and plaster all work in it.
