A dragon egg candle 86 mm tall and 64 mm across: an egg wrapped in twelve rows of shield-shaped scales, each one pointing down with a ridge along its middle and overlapping the row below, round a smooth crown where the wick comes out.
Made with the hugging-shell mode of our silicone mold maker. Every scale overhangs the row beneath it, which a rigid mold could never release, so print the base with the egg fused onto it and the two shell halves, pour about 226 ml of silicone, and cast in the flexible mold that comes out.
A fantasy candle for a game night, a book nook or a gift for anyone who has ever wanted to hatch one. Pour it in deep green, black or red and dry-brush gold or copper mica over the scale edges. The zip carries every printed part, the egg master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

Print the base, which has the master already fused onto it, and the two shell halves. No supports.
Stand the shell halves on the base around the master and hold the seams shut with steel binder clips. The seats for them are built into the shell.
Tape the outside seams or run a bead of hot glue along them, because silicone finds every gap.
Mix 252 ml of silicone in one batch, pour it into the open top in a thin stream, and fill level with the rim.
Once it has cured, unclip the shell, lift it off and peel the silicone off the master. That silicone is your mold.
Set the silicone back in the shell to keep its shape, and cast into it through the opening the base left.

Pour the egg in a dark colour, let it cool fully, then dry-brush gold, copper or bronze mica across it with a soft brush held flat. The powder catches the ridge and lower edge of every scale and leaves the overlaps dark, which gives the scales depth.
Yes. A slow epoxy or a polyurethane casting resin both work in the silicone mold and give you a heavy display egg; tint it with alcohol ink or metallic powder. Use a mold release and let it cure fully before you peel the silicone off the scales.
Yes, with a hard pillar wax poured at 75 to 80 C, so it runs into every overlap before it starts to set. Tap the mold for a few seconds after the pour to bring up any bubbles caught under the scales.
