Faceted gem candle mold

A low-poly crystal candle from a rigid two-part print. No silicone, no supports on the facets.

Candle wax Pro early access

A faceted gem candle about 69 mm across and 64 mm tall, cut flat underneath so it stands on its own. Every face is flat, so the candle catches the light like a cut stone instead of reading as a plain ball.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for this shape: two rigid halves with alignment keys, rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The gem is convex and mirror-symmetric across the seam, which is why the site's own mold advisor rates a rigid mold a good fit for it, and why you need no silicone at all.

Drop a tabbed wick in before you close the halves, clip it centred across the funnel, and pour. The zip carries both halves, the gem master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file that puts every setting back on the generator.

Shown as a 3D render of the printed mold halves and the candle they cast, not a photo.

What you need

  • About 155 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 172 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 70 mm candle
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported, standing with the funnel up. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.
  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.
  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.
  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.
  5. Cool fully, then open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick.

Questions about this design

Why a rigid mold and not silicone for this one?

Because the gem is convex and mirror-symmetric across the seam, so each half pulls straight off without catching anywhere. The site's own mold advisor scores a rigid two-part mold 95 out of 100 for this shape. A rigid mold means no silicone to buy, and the printed halves last for many pours.

Where does the wick go in the gem?

Down through the pour funnel. Use a wick with a metal tab, drop it in so the tab sits on the cavity floor before you close the halves, and clip it centred across the funnel. The funnel end is the top of the candle.

Can I make it bigger or smaller?

Upload the master STL from the zip to the free two-part candle mold generator and set the size there, or drop the recipe file from the zip onto the generator with it to start from these exact settings.
