The D has one large closed counter, which the tool keeps attached with a single thin bridge running straight up out of it. The result is a bold D with one fine break at the top of the bowl, still instantly readable at a glance on the green. The letter comes out about 19 mm wide and 22 mm tall, measured over the ball's surface. Every letter in this set uses the same font and the same letter height, so a set of balls marked with different letters matches.
Made with our free golf ball stencil generator, not modelled by hand: we typed D into its Initials field, chose the Bold & Blocky font and set Size to 22 mm. Everything else is the tool's default, and the STL in the zip is exactly what the tool gives you: a 71 by 48 mm cap for a standard 42.67 mm ball, with a 2.4 mm wall, 0.5 mm of clearance, a skirt that reaches 12 degrees past the middle of the ball so it cups it, and two tabs with 7 mm holes for a rubber band. Like every free download from the tool, it carries a small raised MESHCAST mark on its underside, along one tab.
Seat it on the ball, draw through the opening with a fine permanent marker, lift it off, and the ball is marked in a few seconds, the same way every time. Want your initials on one cap instead? Type two or three letters into the same tool.

Print the file as exported: rim flat on the bed, dome up, with tree supports on (organic in PrusaSlicer).
Peel the supports out of the inside of the dome.
Wipe the ball clean so the ink bites, then seat the cap on top and press the rim down until it cups the ball.
Draw through the opening with short strokes from the edges inwards.
Lift the cap straight up and leave the ink for a minute before you touch it.

Yes. Lift the stencil once the ink has had a moment to dry, then close the fine gap at the top of the D with one short stroke of the same marker. Most people leave it, though: from a step away it reads as a solid letter.
Print it as exported, rim flat on the bed and the dome up, with tree supports switched on (organic in PrusaSlicer, tree in Bambu Studio, Orca and Cura). They hold up the inside of the dome and peel out easily. Sliced in PrusaSlicer 2.7.2 at 0.2 mm layers it takes about 1 h 10 min and 14 g of PLA.
