Two upright stems and a crossbar, and nothing enclosed, so the H cuts cleanly with no bridges. It is symmetrical left to right, which makes it easy to line up straight on the ball, and it reads the same in any light. The letter comes out about 18 mm wide and 22 mm tall, measured over the ball's surface. Every letter in this set uses the same font and the same letter height, so a set of balls marked with different letters matches.

Made with our free golf ball stencil generator, not modelled by hand: we typed H into its Initials field, chose the Bold & Blocky font and set Size to 22 mm. Everything else is the tool's default, and the STL in the zip is exactly what the tool gives you: a 71 by 48 mm cap for a standard 42.67 mm ball, with a 2.4 mm wall, 0.5 mm of clearance, a skirt that reaches 12 degrees past the middle of the ball so it cups it, and two tabs with 7 mm holes for a rubber band. Like every free download from the tool, it carries a small raised MESHCAST mark on its underside, along one tab.

Seat it on the ball, draw through the opening with a fine permanent marker, lift it off, and the ball is marked in a few seconds, the same way every time. Want your initials on one cap instead? Type two or three letters into the same tool.

  • A standard golf ball, 42.67 mm
  • A fine permanent marker (a chisel tip is too broad for the corners)
  • About 14 g of PLA or PETG
  • A rubber band, if you want to hold the cap on through the tab holes

How to make it

  1. Print the file as exported: rim flat on the bed, dome up, with tree supports on (organic in PrusaSlicer).

  2. Peel the supports out of the inside of the dome.

  3. Wipe the ball clean so the ink bites, then seat the cap on top and press the rim down until it cups the ball.

  4. Draw through the opening with short strokes from the edges inwards.

  5. Lift the cap straight up and leave the ink for a minute before you touch it.

Questions about this design

How do I keep the letter H straight on the golf ball?

Use the logo or the seam of the ball as a reference and turn the cap until the tabs sit parallel to it before you draw. Because the H is symmetrical, any tilt shows at once, so a few seconds lining it up is worth it.

How do I print the golf ball stencil letter H?

Print it as exported, rim flat on the bed and the dome up, with tree supports switched on (organic in PrusaSlicer, tree in Bambu Studio, Orca and Cura). They hold up the inside of the dome and peel out easily. Sliced in PrusaSlicer 2.7.2 at 0.2 mm layers it takes about 1 h 13 min and 14 g of PLA.

Can I change the letter H golf ball stencil for my initials or a different ball?
