The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. She stands side-on to the seam, so her outline, comb, beak and tail are the parting line and each side of her is one half. The tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

A farmhouse kitchen and Easter favourite. Pour her in cream or white, and paint the comb and wattle red and the beak yellow. The zip carries both halves, the hen master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

  • About 77 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 86 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 45 mm candle, about 80 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.

  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.

  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick. Paint the comb, wattle and beak if you like.

Where does the wick go in the hen candle?

Down through her back, between the head and the tail, where the pour funnel sits, into the middle of her body. Her head and tail stay standing while the back burns down.

How do I paint the hen candle?

Pour her in cream or white. Once cool, paint the comb and the wattle red, the beak yellow and the eyes black. Candle paint or acrylic mixed with candle medium stays on without cracking.

Does the hen candle make a set with other farm animals?

It goes well with the silly goose candle mold, the same size and also side-on. Together they make a small farmyard for a kitchen shelf or an Easter table.
