The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The ribs are on the front and back and fade out down the sides where the seam runs, and the carved face opens straight towards the front, so the tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

The classic Halloween candle. Pour it in orange, then paint the carved face black, or pour it in white for a ghost pumpkin. The zip carries both halves, the pumpkin master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

What you need

  • About 165 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 183 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 65 mm candle, about 80 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.

  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.

  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick just above the stem. Paint the carved face black if you like.

Questions about this design

Why are there no ribs down the sides of the jack-o'-lantern?

The mold splits down the sides. Deep ribs there would lock a rigid half, so they fade out towards the seam. From the front, where the face is, the pumpkin still reads as fully ribbed.

How do I make the carved face stand out?

Paint the inside of the eyes, nose and mouth with black candle paint and wipe the surface clean with a cloth before it dries. The carving is 4 mm deep, so the paint stays in it.

Where does the wick go in the jack-o'-lantern?

Down through the stem, where the pour funnel sits, into the middle of the pumpkin. The stem burns first, then the pumpkin hollows out and glows through its sides.
