A tray of nine paw prints, 45 mm across and 14 mm deep. Each one is paw-shaped all round, with a big heel pad and four toe beans raised on the face, so it still reads as a paw from across the room.

Made with our tray mold generator in its flexible silicone tray mode: print the caster, pour silicone into it and peel out a flexible nine-cavity tray. Cast it in a food-safe platinum silicone and the same tray makes frozen dog treats as well as wax melts.

The zip carries the printed caster exactly as the tool exported it, one paw on its own as an STL, the master uploaded to the tool, and a print and pour sheet with the silicone figure the tool measured.

What you need

  • About 291 ml of silicone for the tray (mix it in one batch), food-safe platinum if it is for treats
  • Wax melt blend, or a treat mix, about 17 ml per paw
  • A heat-proof jug for pouring

How to cast it

  1. Print the caster as exported, open side up. It is one part, so there are no seams to seal. No supports.

  2. Set it on a level surface. Mix 291 ml of silicone in one batch and pour it into one corner in a thin stream, letting it flow round the raised shapes until it is level with the rim.

  3. Tap the caster on the table for a minute to bring the bubbles up, then let the silicone cure for as long as its datasheet says.

  4. Peel the cured silicone out of the caster. That silicone is your tray, and the caster is ready for another one.

  5. Fill each cavity, let it set, then flex the tray and peel it back to pop the pieces out.

Questions about this design

Can I make frozen dog treats in the paw print tray?

Yes, if the tray is cast in a food-safe platinum-cure silicone. Blend plain yoghurt with banana or pumpkin, spoon it in, freeze for a few hours and flex the paws out. Keep that tray for treats only and use a second one for wax.

How do I get the toe beans a different colour?

Fill just the four toe pockets and the heel pad with a few drops of coloured wax first. Let them skin over, then pour the rest of the paw in the main colour a little cooler so the beans stay put.

Is the paw print tray a good size for cat treats too?

Each paw is about 17 ml, a big portion for a cat. Fill each cavity a third of the way for cat-sized treats: the face of the paw, beans included, is what forms first, so a shallow fill still looks like a paw.
