A rainbow arch candle 90 mm wide, 90 mm tall and 34 mm thick: three rounded bands curving over a 30 mm opening and standing on two flat feet. The boho rainbow, as a sculptural candle for a nursery shelf or a desk.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The seam runs through the arch's thickness, so each rounded face is one half and pulls straight off, and the tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

The pour funnel sits at the crown, and that is where the wick goes: a short wick into the top of the arch, not a long one from the floor, because the arch has no single middle to run a wick through. Pour it in one colour, or in terracotta, sand and blush, a band at a time. The zip carries both halves, the arch master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

How this mold works

What you need

3
  • About 164 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 182 ml
  • A primed wick about 50 mm long and a wick pin or skewer, or a short tabbed wick and a wick bar
  • Rubber bands or clamps to hold the halves shut

How to cast it

5
  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Close the halves empty and band them along the whole seam, including round the opening and both feet.

  3. Pour through the funnel at the crown at 65 to 75 C until the wax reaches the top of the funnel.

  4. Once the wax has a skin, push a primed wick, or a greased wick pin, straight down through the funnel into the crown, about 25 mm deep: there is about 30 mm of wax under the funnel there. Or hang a short tabbed wick from a wick bar across the funnel before you pour.

  5. Top up the funnel once the first pour is firm but still warm. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick. If you used a pin, pull it out and set a primed wick in the hole with a drop of melted wax.

Questions about this design

Where does the wick go in the rainbow arch candle?

Into the crown, straight down from the pour funnel. The arch has only about 30 mm of wax under the funnel, so use a short wick: push a primed wick or a wick pin in once the wax has skinned over, or hang a short tabbed wick from a wick bar before you pour. A tab on the floor of the mold will not reach.

Is the rainbow arch candle meant to be burned?

It can be, for short burns: the wick melts a small pool at the crown and the bands stand round it. Many people keep it as a decoration, especially in a nursery. If you burn it, set it on a dish and never leave it, since wax can run down the bands.

How do I pour the rainbow arch candle in three colours?

The mold splits through the thickness, so the bands are side by side in the cavity, not stacked. Pour it in one colour and paint the bands afterwards with candle paint, or dip-dye the finished arch from one foot. Three separate pours will mix at the crown.
