◆ Candle wax
A 76 mm ribbed ball candle with 20 rounded ribs, as a silicone mold from a printed shell.
A ribbed sphere candle 76 mm across and 66 mm tall: a ball with 20 rounded ribs running from the foot to the crown, fading into a smooth top where the wick comes out, on a flat so it stands.
Made with the hugging-shell mode of our silicone mold maker: print the base with the ball fused onto it and the two shell halves, pour about 351 ml of silicone, and the flexible mold that comes out peels off the rib flanks that would lock a rigid two-part mold at the seam.
The ribbed ball is one of the most popular modern candle shapes: pour it in cream, sage or terracotta and it looks at home everywhere. The zip carries every printed part, the ball master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.
Shown as a 3D render of the printed mold parts pulled apart around the master, not a photo.

Print the base, which has the master already fused onto it, the two shell halves and the six clamps (all six are in clamps.stl). No supports.
Stand the shell halves on the base around the master and push the six printed clamps over the seams. Steel binder clips work too, the seats for them are built into the shell.
Tape the outside seams or run a bead of hot glue along them, because silicone finds every gap.
Mix 384 ml of silicone in one batch, pour it into the open top in a thin stream, and fill level with the rim.
Once it has cured, unclip the shell and slide each half off SIDEWAYS, not upward: the master is wider above its foot, so the base rib is left open for that. Then peel the silicone off the master. That silicone is your mold.
Set the silicone back in the shell to keep its shape, and cast into it through the opening the base left.

A plain ball releases from a two-part print split through its middle. The ribs do not: at the sides of the split, each rib hooks behind the next one. Silicone flexes off them, so the ribs stay crisp all the way round.
A pillar wax or a paraffin blend poured at 75 to 80 C, with a little stearin for hardness. Container soy is too soft and rounds the ribs off. Tap the mold for a few seconds after the pour to bring up the air.
About 351 ml, so mix 384 ml in one batch and pour it slowly into one corner so it flows round the ribs without trapping air. Each candle then takes about 195 g of wax.
