A wave totem candle 150 mm tall: five round bulbs, 60 mm across, joined by four soft necks of 38 mm in one continuous rolling wave, from a half-bulb foot up to a domed top with a 40 mm flat where the wick comes out.

The mold is exactly what our two-part candle mold generator builds for it: two rigid halves with rubber-band grooves, pry pockets and a pour funnel on top. The totem is turned round one axis, so every horizontal slice is a circle and a seam through its middle releases it cleanly. The tool's own seam check finds nothing stuck. No silicone needed.

It is a sculptural candle: tall enough to anchor a mantel or a dining table, and the wave catches the light down its whole height. Pour it in cream, sage or a dusty blue, or pour two in different colours. The zip carries both halves, the totem master as its own STL, the tool's own print-settings sheet and a recipe file for the generator.

How this mold works

What you need

3
  • About 267 g of pillar wax: the cavity holds 296 ml
  • A tabbed, primed wick for a 60 mm candle, about 190 mm long
  • Rubber bands or clamps, and a clip or wick bar across the funnel

How to cast it

5
  1. Print both halves as exported. Clamp-strength settings: 4 walls, 40% gyroid infill, no supports.

  2. Drop a tabbed wick into one half so the tab sits on the cavity floor, close the halves and band them along the whole seam.

  3. Clip the wick centred across the pour funnel and pour at 65 to 75 C.

  4. Once the first pour is firm but still warm, top up the funnel. Wax shrinks, and the second pour fills the dip.

  5. Cool fully, open the halves at the pry pockets and trim the wick at the flat top.

Questions about this design

Does the wave totem candle burn evenly through its narrow necks?

It burns down one bulb at a time. Size the wick for the 60 mm bulbs and keep each burn to two or three hours, so the pool reaches the edge of a bulb without running down the neck below. The 38 mm necks are wide enough to keep the totem standing as it burns.

Why can the wave totem candle mold be a rigid print?

The totem is a turned shape, so every horizontal slice is a circle. Split through the middle, each half pulls straight off the bulbs and necks, which is all a rigid printed mold needs. The tool runs a seam check on it before it builds the halves.

How do I keep the wick straight in the 150 mm wave totem candle?

Pull the wick taut before you clip it across the funnel, and use a wick bar rather than a clothes peg so it cannot lean. Top up the funnel once the first pour has set, since a candle this tall shrinks round the wick as it cools.
