A printed tray for four scented wax sachets, each 80 x 60 mm and 10 mm thick, with a raised frame round a flat centre for pressed flowers and dried herbs, and a hanging hole at the top for a ribbon.

Made with our tray mold generator in its rigid tray mode: print the tray and pour the wax straight in. The hanging hole comes from a post standing in each cavity; it narrows towards the top, so the sachet lifts off it.

The zip carries the tray exactly as the tool exported it, one sachet on its own as an STL, the master uploaded to the tool, and a print and pour sheet with the volume of each cavity.

What you need

  • A PETG print of the tray
  • Soy or beeswax blend and fragrance oil, about 43 ml per sachet
  • Dried flowers, herbs or citrus slices, and ribbon for hanging

How to cast it

  1. Print the tray as exported, cavities up, no supports. Use PETG: wax goes in at 60 to 75 C and PLA starts to soften around 60 C.
  2. Set the tray on a level surface. Melt the wax, stir in the fragrance at the temperature the supplier gives, and pour each cavity to the brim.
  3. Let the wax set at room temperature, then put the tray in the fridge for 15 minutes: the wax shrinks off the walls.
  4. Turn the tray over above a towel and press gently on the back of each cavity. The pieces drop out.

Questions about this design

When do the dried flowers go into a wax sachet?

Once the wax has cooled enough to form a thin skin, usually five to ten minutes after pouring. Press them gently into the centre inside the frame: in hot wax they sink and brown, on a skin they stay on the surface where they are seen.

Which wax is best for hanging sachets?

A firm wax: a soy and beeswax blend or a pillar soy. Container soy is too soft and sweats in a warm wardrobe. The frame on the face also helps a softer wax keep its shape.

How long does a scented wax sachet keep its smell?

Usually two to three months in a drawer or wardrobe. Rub the surface with a fingertip to warm it and it throws scent again; a few drops of the same fragrance oil on the back revives an old one.
